ADVFN SMS supplies market moves to investors on the go

- stock quotes sent to mobile phones in seconds -

ADVFN, the UK's number one stocks and shares Web site, has launched an SMS text service for private investors.

Users of any mobile phone can receive price information for their chosen stocks by sending an SMS to ADVFN (www.advfn.com). They will receive a text message within ten seconds detailing the stock's current price, the bid and offer price as well as the day's highs, lows and opening price.

The service provides quotes for London Stock Exchange listed stocks and covered warrants, OFEX and FOREX (Foreign Exchange). Users simply have to key in ‘afn' then ‘q' followed by the stock symbol (epic). They then send this message to 80128 at a cost of 25p per query.

For epics that appear on more than one exchange users need to type in the exchange after the ‘q', for example ‘LSE' for London Stock Exchange or ‘OFEX'.

"With the number of mobile phone subscribers in the UK at around the 50 million mark, SMS is one of the best mediums for fast and easy communication and an ideal channel for financial data," said Clem Chambers, CEO of ADVFN. "Investors and traders have to leave their desks sometimes so won't always have an Internet connection. However, it's very likely they'll have their mobile with them and just as probable that they will need instant information on their investments," he continued.
